All tennis players can have a UTR-P to determine their level of play and competitiveness. UTR Sports verification system centers around the source of a result. If a result comes from a reliable source of organized and sanctioned play, then it is deemed to be a verified result. If a result comes from a pick-up game or more casual, unorganized play then it is deemed to be an unverified result.
Some players will have a verified UTR-P. Here are the distinctions between these two ratings.
UTR-P rating
UTR-P reflects results from a broad range of event types including casual play, verified matches, and practice matches. This provides a fantastic opportunity for the broader pickleball player to engage with our rating system in a more casual setting.
Verified UTR-P
- Verified UTR-P reflects results from verified events such as USAP-sanctioned and verified UTR Sports events.
- It is signified by the blue checkmark () next to the displayed rating.
There is a difference between pickleball events and verified pickleball events. Verified events are thoroughly reviewed to maintain the accuracy of a player's rating. If you took part in any of the listed events from 2022 to the present, you will acquire a verified UTR-P, which will be visible by default on your player profile with a blue checkmark.
Advantages of Verified UTR-P
- The UTR-P rating is safeguarded by our verification system to prevent any improper manipulation, such as sandbagging, and ensure fair access to tournaments.
- Players are prohibited from intentionally posting scores against each other to manipulate their ratings.
- Conversely, players competing at a higher level are not allowed to deliberately post lower scores to artificially reduce their ratings, and gain an unfair advantage in sanctioned tournament play.
- Verified UTR-P rating maintains a strong, consistent accuracy and is extremely stable as it is not susceptible to results coming from unreliable sources.
